CD Cover Analysis - The Streets

The genre of the album is rap/hip-hop, this isn’t clear from the album cover. The artist is The Streets, Mike skinner who is shown on the front of the album cover. The title of the album is ‘the hardest way to make an easy living’. This could suggest many things but I believe that this is about how hard it is to make it in the music business to achieve an easy way of living. The setting looks as if it is set on the side of a road. The artist, Mike Skinner is represented in a much laid back style, with him leaning against a car. His clothes suggest that he is a stylish man but is also a bit of a bad boy. The lighter in the corner also suggest this. The mood of the image is dull as the lighting is dim and dark but it gives the cover an edge to it. The camera shot is a long shot of Skinner but the background isn’t very busy to show that Skinner is the main focus. The target market of this album cover would be boys aged 16+ who are the typical sort of ‘chav’. Also, I believe this as it hasn’t got much that would attract girls.
